Kids Motorcycle Theme Birthday Party

For my son's 6th birthday, he wanted to do a motorcycle theme birthday party. Unfortunately, after searching party store after party store, the local motorcycle dealers, and spending days researching on the internet, I found next to nothing in terms of regular motorcycle theme birthday party supplies and ideas. Through continued research and a little creativity, I came up with the following ideas:

Logo: My son wanted to create a ''kids motorcycle club''. So, using some creativity, I created the ''Collingswood Choppers - Kids Motorcycle Club'' (just substitute your town's name). Using a simple program on the computer, I created a logo with ''Collingswood Choppers'' at the top, an outline of a chopper in the middle, and ''Kids Motorcycle Club'' at the bottom.

Invitations: Using a computer and a little creativity, I created the invitations myself using the logo I designed for the cover.

Decorations: Again, using a computer, I downloaded several logos for motorcycle manufacturers and created ''signs'' around the house. I also created a ''Happy Birthday'' banner with motorcycle manufacturer logos on the ends.

Host: Being a motorcyclist and in a club allowed me to be able to ''dress the part'', donning jeans, my motorcycle club T-shirt, black leather chaps, black boots and black leather chain wallet. I also parked my motorcycle in the front, with balloons on it, for the kids to see as they arrived. If you're not a motorcyclist, you may be able to borrow items like this from a friend...or just be yourself.

Cups, Plates and Napkins: I opted for some plain checkered flag design items that I found online.

Cake: This one was easy, the local bakeries generally will create whatever you want!

T-shirts: We decided to make T-shirts for all of the kids by using the logo we created, printed out on inkjet printer iron-on transfers. We picked up plain white T-shirts from a local craft store for about $3 each.

Activity 1: Do Rags - I purchased a number of plain colored bandanas at the craft store and fabric paints. I then purchased a number of ''motorcycle related'' fabric stamps and rubber stamps (i.e. an American eagle head, tribal patterns, a skull, etc.). The kids design and create their own ''do rags''.

Activity 2: Pin the Wheels on the Chopper - To create a variation on the 'pin the tail on the donkey' game...I found a nice profile photograph of a chopper on a plain white background online and printed out several color copies of it. I then spray mounted the copies on white poster board. Using a razor knife, I cut out the outlines and then carefully cut out the wheels. I saved all of the wheels and one of the chopper bodies without the wheels. Then, on a large poster board, I mounted the one ''wheel-less'' chopper and made a title called ''Pin the Wheels on the Chopper''.

Activity 3: Dirt Bike Competition - While some of the kids are doing Activity 1, I setup a PlayStation 2 with an inexpensive dirt bike game for the kids to challenge each other on.

Activity 4: Hot Bike - To create a variation on the ''hot potato'' game...the kids sat in a circle and tossed a toy motorcycle around. The child who was still holding the motorcycle when the music stopped had to run around the outside of the circle pretending to be a motorcycle.

Activity 5: Relay Race - Outside, the kids line up in two lines. The child in the front puts on a motorcycle helmet (there are cheap plastic ones available) and has a bicycle handlebar. Two children race to a point and return, then they switch the helmet and motorcycle bar with the next child and they race down and back...and so on.

Activity 6: Pinata - They may be hard to find, but they are out there. There are motorcycle shaped pinatas available online. Try searching for ''motorcycle pinata'' on google.com. Be sure to order early though!
